SAMS Europe 2019: looking back on inspiring presentations

Like every year, Softline Solutions not only was present at SAMS Europe but played a very active role in the event as well. Besides hosting the pre-event Softline Solutions ice breaker session “Setup and Implementation of ITAM", Dennis Montanje (Managing Director Softline Solutions Northern Europe) was also asked to lead the technology stream on day 1 of SAMS Europe.

John Lankester, ITAM manager @ Rijkswaterstaat, hosted the Softline Solutions presentation slot and took the audience on the journey “ITAM at Rijkswaterstaat: from insight and overview to reliable advice!”. He also showed us possible efficiency gains, gaining insight into costs, and possible optimisation and consolidation of the application landscape.

Hannes Bartz (VP Business Development of we.CONECT, the organisation behind SAMS Europe): “We value Softline Solutions for their continued support and for their many valuable insights into how to take SAM into the future.”

SAMS Europe 2019 was full of inspiring and thought-provoking presentations. Some of these were already featured on the Softline Solutions LinkedIn page, but here is a short re-cap.

Rachel Ryan – Danske Bank

The key takeaway from Rachel’s evening keynote presentation: reassess your SAM / ITAM program in order to make sure it is adapted to the new reality in your environment. Rachel also addressed the most important activities that need to be considered, such as building and developing resources, software risk and optimisation management or stakeholder engagement.

Mikkel Hessner – Flexera

Mikkel introduced the Berlin audience to challenges as well as solutions to delivering world class SAM in the era of multi-hybrid-IT & Cloud. Looking at what exactly has changed and why do we need to be aware? What can we do about it and how? And: Does it spell the end of SAM as we know it?

Izolda Marmulakovic and Lars Lykke Alnor – the Lego Group

They presented their transformation to an agile delivery mindset and processes in IT teams. They also shared the benefits they see of SAM in a truly agile setting, such as a better understanding of IT business needs, increased focus on projects, and avoiding "business as usual" pitfalls.
